City Diplomacy: The Expanding Role of Cities in International Politics

“This publication aims to fill a gap in the academic literature on diplomacy by introducing the concept of city diplomatic, defined as the institutions and processes by which cities, or local governments in general, engaged in relations with actors on an international political stage to represent themselves and their interests to one another. Was argued that city diplomacy is an activity of professional, diplomacy , pragmatic and upcoming dyplomatic activity on the international political stage, which is changing and will continue to change current diplomacy processes. The document begin with theoretical background: multilayered and the city. Follow with a review of the city diplomacy concept and 6 dimensions of city diplomacy: security, development, economy, culture, networks, representations. Ends with some conclusions and interviews with various officials about the concept of city diplomacy.”
